Five extraordinary young people from different colleges came together for a mission unlike any other. Though they’d never worked as a group before, they shared one powerful vision: to teach the world all about space.

The group created a series of short videos, dressed in astronaut suits, bringing the planets to life. Alongside these, they hope to design colourful and engaging workbooks to support learning in a fun and accessible way.

They even took a research trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester. One of the young people, Bobby, told us that they got to smell different smells from space and “the moon smells like gunpowder.” The group also explored the Apollo missions, British astronaut facts, and the solar system itself. Bobby said: “That day was probably one of the best ones I’ve had so far.”

Back from their space odyssey, the team worked hard to plan and pitch their project. Their PowerPoint presentation secured the funding they needed. Bobby joked, “It felt amazing – under the condition that I didn’t get a catapult and send one of the kids to the moon.”

The group is now creating a TikTok video for each planet, combining fun with education. There’s even a sun-themed video in the works, where the characters will need “factor 5,000” sunscreen. Bobby’s deep space knowledge shines as he told us that he can name 14 moons from the top of his head, and he’s even building a Scratch game based on stars.

William, who joined the group through Bobby, said he’s learnt a lot about space from working together. Bobby admitted that working in a team was a new experience for him, but one that’s helped build new friendships: “That’s one of the blessings really… I started spending a little more time with William and when I started bringing him to this group we became closer. Abby also became close for the same reason.”

As Bobby proudly put it: “The thing I think we’re really good at is throwing random ideas together and hoping it works.” That spontaneity and creativity became the rocket fuel for a project that’s truly out of this world.

And the journey isn’t over yet – next stop? A Mars-themed travel video, and maybe even a massive solar system model.

One thing’s for sure: this KEY+ group has shown that with imagination, teamwork and a little stardust, anything is possible.
